What a bespoke dining
table costs in South Africa.
There is no sticker price on a piece that does not exist yet. Here is what actually moves the number, and how the fixed quote works.
Every table is priced to the commission. It moves with the timber you choose, the size of the piece, the base it stands on and the finish. Some pieces come in under R20,000. Others sit well above it. As one real example, a solid white oak dining table with two matching benches from our workshop is R23,000.
You never guess. Send your dimensions and we come back with a fixed quote within a week of the first sketch — one number, no hidden costs, no change after the fact.
Six things decide the number.
Understand these and a quote stops being a mystery.
Timber species and volume
Solid oak, ash and reclaimed barrel-stave oak each carry a different raw cost, and a thick or wide top simply uses more of it. The board you pick is the single biggest line in the quote.
Size and seating
A table for six is not a table for ten scaled down. Length, width and top thickness change the material, the milling time and the way the base has to be engineered.
Base and joinery
A simple trestle is quick. A pedestal, a breadboard end, a splayed leg or a fully hand-cut mortise-and-tenon frame each add hours at the bench.
Finish
Everything leaves the workshop in a hand-rubbed natural hardwax oil. A stained or multi-coat finish, or a very large surface area, adds time.
Delivery and installation
Finished pieces are delivered and placed across Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula. Distance and access — stairs, tight turns, a crane lift — are quoted honestly up front.
Design complexity
A clear brief moves fast. An unusual shape, matching benches or chairs, or several rounds of revision all add design and prototyping time.

The quote is the price. It covers design, the solid timber, the build, the finish and delivery. We do not use veneer or particle board, we do not cut corners you cannot see, and we do not send a second invoice once the work is agreed.
