Commissioning a piece should feel simple, not daunting. Here is exactly how it works — and how to brief a maker well.
Tell the maker the room, the use, a rough size and the look you want. You get back a sketch, timber options and one fixed price. Approve it, pay a deposit to book your slot, and the piece is built and delivered to a date you are given up front.
At Simon Paul Design that fixed quote comes within a week of the first sketch — one number, no hidden costs, no change after the fact.

Five clear steps.
Describe the piece
Room, use, rough size and the look you are after — by call, WhatsApp or the enquiry form. A photo of the space helps.
Sketch and fixed quote
Within a week you have a drawing, dimensions, timber options and a single fixed price.
Approve and book
Once the design and quote are agreed, a deposit books your slot in the workshop queue and the build begins.
Built by hand
Hand-built in solid timber and finished in hand-rubbed hardwax oil. You are given a delivery date when you approve.
Delivered and placed
The finished piece is delivered, levelled and handed over, with the balance due on delivery.
What to have ready.
The clearer the brief, the better the quote.
Size and space
Rough dimensions of the piece or the space it goes in — and any tight doorways or stairs for delivery.
Use and look
How it will be used, and a few reference images of styles, timbers or finishes you are drawn to.
Timber preference
Oak, ash or reclaimed barrel-stave oak — or leave it open and see samples. Read oak vs ash if you are deciding.
Budget range
A rough budget lets the maker steer timber and design so the fixed quote lands where you want it.
